5.5

Just wanted to jump on and say that Jack got weighed again this morning and he has gained 5 1/2 ounces in 2 weeks! I am so happy and excited that he is growing!

We may also be getting a tooth pretty soon. I thought I felt something hard on his bottom gum the last couple of days but the nurse today said she did not feel what I was feeling but that his gums look ready. I even had a dream last night that he woke up and just *poof* had a tooth! I can at least dream that it is that easy right?

I have been really busy the last week trying to get this house packed up. We are moving next Friday and I could not be happier about it but I don't expect I will be able to post much until then. Expect lots of updates and pictures once we are in though.

Happy Friday!

just me ranting again

Monday morning I go back to the OB for my six-week check and hopefully I will get the all-clear to resume normal activities. This, to me, means returning to the gym and I have to say I am a little bit scared. I have had times in the last 15 years or so where I have been what I called "out of shape" but my Today Body laughs at my Then Body when it hears that. I have NEVER been THIS out of shape in my whole life and I really don't know where to begin to get it all back.

I've been reading about things you should and shouldn't do to begin regaining your abdominal muscles. (Abs? Where are you abs? I'm looking for them on the side of milk cartons. I have put out an Amber Alert for my abs because they are gone-er than gone.) Everything says to start slowly with leg lifts and to try to do a sit-up right now is actually going to do more harm than good so I guess that is where I start. I'm thinking about dusting off my Prenatal Pilates DVD and try that out because it actually had some core work in it. (Which is why I promptly stopped playing it 4 months ago and put it back on the bookshelf.)

I have been trying to be more aware of holding in my stomach while I am sitting and walking and I have been walking a lot every day, usually in the morning with Jack in the stroller for 1 1/2 to 2 hours and in the afternoon with Chewy, usually for a much shorter time. I weighed myself at Publix 2 days ago and I have lost another 2 pounds since last week so I am hoping that after an active weekend, I may have less than 15 pounds left to go by the big weigh-in at the doctor. The thing is, I can't lose too much weight too quickly because I am still breast feeding and intend to continue doing so for a few months and losing too much weight and working out too hard can affect supply so I have to be very careful how I do things. At the same time, I know that my agency is expecting me to get back to work before the season is over the end of April or so, and to be honest, I expect myself to also, but maybe I need to lower my expectations a little bit? I gained 50 pounds in 9 months and I probably should not expect to lose it in 2 months or less. But it would be nice.

Anyway, yesterday we went to the dog park and Jack slept and Chewy ran and everyone had some fun.

doctor visit

I had a checkup at the OB today and Chris and Jack joined me to take some pictures with the doctor who brought Jack into the world.

Jack has not been in the best mood the last couple of days and I have put myself on a bland diet in hopes that it is something I am eating that is bothering his tummy and will clear up quickly. It seems like no matter what I do, unless he is eating or sleeping, he is uncomfortable and generally angry.

He didn't want to sleep this morning after his 9AM feeding and only slept for an hour at a time after that until we went to the Dr this afternoon. We were gone for almost 2 hours and he was mad just about the whole time, alternating between just grimacing and outright screaming, to the point where, in the car on the way home, he was absolutely sobbing. It is so hard for me to see him like that and luckily when we got home he ate for almost an hour and then slept for 2 hours and has eaten and slept normally since then. (Until I started typing those words and he woke up after sleeping only a half hour. HELP!) Good news is he is eating like crazy and that means we will hopefully find that he has gained a bit of weight this week.

In other news, my big post-partum weigh-in went better than I had hoped and I have lost 22 pounds in 10 days! (DOUBLE YAY!) Hopefully some of that weight came off me and is going into Jack. We go back to the pediatrician on Thursday so we will find out but I think he is definitely getting his cheeks back:

lightening and tightening

I know all I seem to do now is complain about my huge belly, thighs and F. F. S. (Fat Face Syndrome) but it's not like I am really knocking myself out to do anything about it. Sure, I make sure I get my fiber and healthy foods in every day but the main culprit in my weight gain is things like this:

(These are white-chocolate covered brownie snowmen that my sister Beth sent to us - extremely Yummiliscious!!)
(Christmas cookies, using my Grandmother's Sugar Cookie recipe. YUM!)

At this point, I am going to eat what I want, as long as I eat the good stuff too, and enjoy it while I can because once this baby is here,(12 days and counting!!) I am back to eating like a human again.

Really I am.
Stop laughing.

And Merry Christmas!!!
