11 months

Dear Jack,

Today you are 11 months old!
For the first time in what feels like forever, I can say that you have not been sick at all this month! Thankfully that means you have actually put on some real weight and the chub has returned to your cheeks. You have also started eating like a grown-up little man and I am so relieved. You eat only solid food now, no more silly baby-purees for you.

You are getting really serious about moving around now. You still prefer to crawl but will also walk (while holding your wooden cart) from one end of the house to the other so quickly, I sometimes have to run over to help you turn around or you will just stand there and hit the cart against the wall over and over until I help you out. You will also walk around while grabbing onto whatever is close by and sometimes the things you chose to hold on to are not so stable and that is why you are now constantly covered in bruises. You have also started standing on your own for seconds at a time. Who knows how long you has been doing it without me seeing but I first saw you about a week ago and since then you have done it a few times every day. You still seem rather surprised when you do it and after 5 or 10 seconds you end up sitting down fast once you realize you are holding on to nothing.

Chewy is your favorite thing in the whole world and no person or thing can make you laugh more than he can. There is no better sound than your belly laugh at Chewy chasing a toy or bubbles or a balloon and it makes me so happy that you love him so much.
You have also become attached to a different kind of dog. A couple of days ago, I found a box of your stuffed animals that we still had not unpacked from our move and you fell in love with one in particular. For now we just call him Puppy and you carry him around with you all day long. The other day you would not let him go for a minute so when you had your snack, Puppy also had a snack on your highchair.

One morning I was in the kitchen and noticed that you had grabbed one of the washcloths that I keep to clean you up after a meal. You were crawling around the kitchen with it, frantically wiping the floor. Next, you moved on to one of your toys in the living room, wiping it down with a circular motion. You had a very serious look on your face and I couldn't help but laugh. I guess the 15 times a day that I wipe down the kitchen floor, or your play mats, or the dishwasher or garbage can registered in your head and you decided to start helping me clean. It's very cute to watch and you do it just about every day now. I can't wait til I can really put you to work, you seem very eager to help out around the house.

Well, maybe not all the time.

You got a new tooth the beginning of last month and I think your first molar is trying to push it's way out. You have been acting like you do when you're teething for a couple of weeks now and since you still only have 2 teeth on the bottom, I'm sure some more are trying to make their way out.

We have been experiencing a little bit of separation anxiety the last couple of weeks but I have invented a way to make it a little easier on both of us when I am home alone with you. Its sort of like a game of Marco Polo. As soon as I am out of your sight, you yell out, "EEEH!" and I respond "EEEH!" This goes on for as long as I am away and as long as I keep answering, you are content that I am not too far away and will return shortly. This helps me be able to actually go to the bathroom alone again, as long as I keep the door open and keep yelling.

I just can't believe that in one short month you will be an entire year old. There is no way that much time has gone by since you were born and we brought you home from the hospital and you opened up places in my heart that I didn't even know were there. This past 11 months have been the most exhausting, tear-filled, laugh-filled, happiest months of my entire life and I can't wait to see what life brings us next.
Love,
Your Mama

Hi Jack,

Happy eleventh month birthday!! You are growing up so fast but I have been keeping in touch with all the things you have learned to do, all the different foods you eat and all the new teeth that have grown in already. I cannot wait to celebrate your first birthday with you.

I send my love to you,
